The key principles are patient education, precise surgical technique and careful selection of medication. By using exercises to relax the tissues and surgical techniques that decrease swelling, there is less discomfort after surgery. As a result, narcotic pain medicines are rarely necessary. You will not be drowsy and the risk of other side effects, such as nausea, will be minimal. Tight, restrictive dressings have been eliminated so that you will be able to move around more freely.
By following all of the steps in this protocol, you will leave the surgery center comfortable and wide-awake, just the way you came in. You will be allowed to do anything that you feel up to doing. Going for a walk, shopping, or going out to dinner are all fair game.
