Artefill ® is a product included in the class of injectable fillers, off-the-shelf materials used to fill out wrinkles. The original injectable filler was collagen, but collagen only lasted three months and occasionally caused allergic reactions. Artefill ® is a unique product because it will often last years instead of just months.
Artefill ® is made of PMMA (poly-methylmethacrylate) microspheres mixed with collagen in a gel-like suspension. It is the only injectable filler approved by the FDA as a non-absorbable filler, meaning that unlike the other fillers at least part of the Artefill ® will not be absorbed by your body over time.

Artefill ® is firmer than the other Injectable Fillers, and so it is recommended only for folds that require a deeper injection, such as the depressions at the corners of the mouth and the folds between the cheeks and upper lips. Because we continue to age, nothing is truly permanent, but Artefill results are expected to last two to five years.
Artefill ® Injections are performed as an office procedure with anesthetic (numbing) creams to minimize discomfort, although occasional nerve blocks may be used. A skin test is required one month before your treatment to be sure you are not allergic to collagen (rare).
Artefill ® Results & Recovery-Indianapolis, Indiana
Artefill ® causes a little more swelling and bruising than the other injections because it is a deeper injection. Any bruising can be covered with makeup and is usually gone within one week.
Improvement is seen immediately after your Artefill injection. Over the next few months, the collagen portion of Artefill is gradually replaced by your body’s own collagen, which is deposited around the PMMA microspheres contained in Artefill ®.
The amount of collagen replacement may vary, and so a “touch-up” Artefill ® injection may be needed a few months after your first injection. As your body continues to add your own collagen, the volume correction may continue to improve, and some patients find that the results are better at one year than at 6 months after the treatment.
Juvéderm® Costs-Indianapolis, Indiana
The cost of Artefill ® is $950 per syringe and $475 for a half syringe, which includes all follow-up care by Dr. Fata. Unlike some offices, Dr. Fata does all Artefill ® injections himself.
