Most patients return to our Indianapolis, Indiana office for a pre-operative appointment. If you have traveled a long distance to Indianapolis, we can accommodate you by combining these two visits into one consultation.
At your pre-operative appointment, you will receive a detailed booklet to help you prepare for breast augmentation. The technique of breast augmentation will be reviewed, your selection of breast implant size will be finalized, you will receive your prescriptions, and all of your questions will be answered.
The Technique of Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient at the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center in Carmel, Indiana. A small incision is placed in a hidden area, which will be determined during your consultation when Dr. Fata reviews your incision placement choices for Breast Augmentation.
Once the incision is made, a “breast pocket “ is developed under the chest wall muscle to allow insertion of the breast implant. The implant may be totally or partially covered by muscle (the “dual plane” approach) depending on the technique chosen by you and Dr. Fata in your discussion of breast implant placement options.
In November of 2006, the FDA approved silicone breast implants for cosmetic breast augmentation. Since their approval, silicone breast implants have proven to be a safe and effective alternative to saline implants and currently more than half of new breast augmentation patients in Indianapolis are choosing silicone breast implants.
However, saline breast implants remain popular because breast size can be adjusted during surgery. Choosing between silicone and saline implants is an important decision, and Dr. Fata will review all of the pros and cons of both types of breast implants during your consultation.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
You will be discharged from the surgery center in Carmel, Indiana wearing a soft cotton bra. You can replace this bra at any time with a comfortable sports bra that will be worn “24/7” for four weeks to keep the breast implants in their proper position.
You will have one or two follow-up visits the first two weeks after surgery, and a check-up two, six and twelve months after your procedure. Dr Fata will check you himself at each of these visits, and your follow-up will never be delegated to an assistant.
Dr. Fata has designed a "Breast Augmentation 24 Hour Recovery Program", which allows most women to resume their normal activities, such as work and child-care, by the second day after surgery. The only restrictions are to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for two weeks.

The Cost of Breast Augmentation
The estimated cost of breast augmentation varies because of the higher cost of silicone implants. Breast augmentation with saline breast implants costs about $4,760, and breast augmentation with silicone breast implants costs about $5,510. Breast augmentation prices include the surgeon's fee, anesthesiologist's fee, the surgery center fee and all follow-up care by Dr. Fata. In the case of multiple procedures, a discount can be applied.
