Extended Tummy Tuck Technique-Indianapolis, Indiana
An extended tummy tuck follows the same principles and techniques as a full tummy tuck. A horizontal incision is made along the “bikini line” above the pubic hairline. The length of the incision and subsequent scar will extend far enough to remove all of the excess skin.
As in the full tummy tuck, the skin is separated from the muscles up to the rib cage, the skin is pulled down, and the excess is trimmed away. The navel is brought out through a new opening in the abdominal skin to maintain its’ proper location. The muscles are tightened and the skin is closed with stitches.
The primary difference between an extended tummy tuck and a standard tummy tuck is the length of the scar and the amount of skin removed, which is far more in an extended tummy tuck.

Dr. Fata performs extended tummy tucks at the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center in Carmel, Indiana near his Indianapolis office. You will need an overnight, or 23-hour stay, and you will go home with an abdominal compression to control swelling and to protect the muscle repair. This garment will be worn for 6 weeks.
You will need one week off from work and most normal activities. The discomfort typically improves about 48 hours after surgery and most women feel much better in one week.
After the first week, you can begin to resume your normal activities. The only restrictions will be no strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for six weeks to protect your muscle repair.
