Although Injectable Fillers, such as Juvéderm®, can also be used, fat injection may be preferable because much larger volumes are available and, in some cases, it may last for years.
Fat Injection Technique
Fat injection is a technique in which your own fat is taken from another part of your body, such as the tummy or buttocks, and injected to fill out wrinkles, folds and areas of hollowing on your face. Fat injection also can be used to fill out and plump up your lips.
Advantages of fat injection include the ability to use much greater volumes than you could use with injectable fillers without being too expensive. Also, using your own fat eliminates the possibility of allergic reactions or rejection. One disadvantage is that some of the fat may be reabsorbed by your body in the first few months. Although Fat Injection is very safe, it is a surgical procedure and therefore a bit more involved than an in-office injection of a filler such as Juvéderm®. Advances in technique over the past several years have reduced the amount of fat that is reabsorbed, and once the fat has stabilized, it should last for years.

Fat Injection Recovery
Fat injection is an outpatient procedure performed by Dr. Fata at the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center in Carmel, Indiana, which is conveniently located near Dr. Fata’s Indianapolis, Indiana office. It can usually be performed using mild sedation and local anesthesia. There is a small amount of swelling and possibly bruising, which typically resolve in a few days. Down time is minimal and most patients can resume normal activities in a couple of days.
Fat Injection Cost
The estimated total cost for a Fat Injections range from $2500-3000, and include Dr. Fata’s surgical fee, the surgery center fee, and all follow-up care by Dr. Fata. In the case of multiple procedures, a discount may be applied. The exact cost for fat injections can only be determined after a consultation with Dr. Fata.
