Saline breast implants have been used for breast augmentation in the U.S. since the early 1970s. During the 14 years that silicone breast implants were restricted by the FDA, saline breast implants were the only option for cosmetic breast augmentation.
At his Renaissance Plastic Surgery office in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Fata offers the options of breast augmentation with saline breast implants and silicone breast implants. Dr. Fata will review the advantages of both types of breast implants and help you make the right choice for your breast augmentation including the right breast implant size.
If you are considering breast augmentation, call Indianapolis Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fata to learn about the advantages of saline breast implants and how they compare with silicone breast implants: (317) 565-1009.
Benefits of Saline Breast Implants
Breast Implant Leaks are Harmless
Saline solution is salt water, formulated at the same concentration as the body’s natural fluids. It is identical to the saline used as an intra-venous fluid during surgery. If you have a saline breast implant leak any time after your breast augmentation, your body would harmlessly absorb the saline solution.
Also, there is no chance of an undetected breast implant leak because as the saline is absorbed, the breast implant will shrink and change the appearance of your breast. The saline breast implant can be easily replaced at your convenience. A breast implant leak after breast augmentation is uncommon, and saline breast implants are generally covered by a 10-year warranty.
Breast Implant Incisions are Smaller
During breast augmentation, saline breast implants are place in the body before they are filled with saline. Therefore, the incision and the resulting scar can be smaller.
Final Breast Implant Size is Adjustable
Silicone breast implants come pre-filled and cannot be adjusted after they are inserted into the breast pocket. However, saline breast implants are filled after insertion, and Dr. Fata can evaluate the size and symmetry and make final volume adjustments to give you the best result for your breast augmentation.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Recovery after breast augmentation is the same whether you choose saline breast implants or silicone breast implants. Dr. Fata has designed a "Breast Augmentation 24 Hour Recovery Program", which allows most women to resume their normal activities, such as work and child-care, by the second day after surgery.
The only restrictions are to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for two weeks after breast augmentation. You will wear a comfortable sports bra for four weeks, and follow-up appointments with Dr. Fata will be arranged at two, six and twelve months after your procedure.
The Cost of Breast Augmentation
The estimated cost of breast augmentation in the Indianapolis area varies because of the higher cost of silicone implants. Augmentation with saline breast implants costs about $4,760 and augmentation with silicone breast implants costs about $5,510.
Breast augmentation prices include the surgeon's fee, anesthesiologist's fee, the Carmel, Indiana surgery center fee and all follow-up care by Dr. Fata. In the case of multiple procedures, a discount can be applied.
