Indianapolis Breast AugmentationBreast augmentation is the most popular plastic surgery procedure performed in the United States today – and it has been for decades. The reason for the popularity of breast augmentation is really quite simple: the procedure is transformative. With just two breast implants, Indianapolis plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fata can produce ideal contours throughout your entire upper body, bringing it into line with your natural curves and dimensions, and creating a look that supports confidence, self-assurance, and overall satisfaction with your appearance.

If you are unhappy with the size, shape, or projection of your breasts, give us a call at 317-575-9152 to schedule a consultation and learn if breast augmentation is right for you.

Breast Augmentation Candidates

The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are over the age of 18 and are dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts. Good breast augmentation candidates should also be in generally good health and able to take a bit of time off to recover.

Dr. Fata offers a unique 24-hour breast surgery recovery program that can significantly shorten the duration of your recovery. However, even this method of rapid breast augmentation recovery may necessitate some longer-lasting physical restrictions. Dr. Fata will work individually with you during your recovery period to help you determine when it is okay to resume all normal activities.

Breast augmentation is an ideal way to address issues including:

Breast augmentation can produce a full and womanly appearance to the bust, helping improve clothing options, enhance your profile, and equalize your curves. If you believe you could benefit from breast augmentation, get in touch with Dr. Fata to schedule a consultation today.

Breast Implant Options

Silicone Breast Implants Indianapolis | Saline Breast ImplantsBreast implants are used in a majority of breast augmentation procedures. Fat grafting for breast augmentation is also available, but this option requires sufficient fat in a donor area of the body and may not produce the most desirable results for women with smaller breasts.

Dr. Fata offers two types of breast implants:

  • Saline – filled with a salt-water solution
  • Silicone – filled with a viscous gel

Saline breast implants are filled after they have been placed. This gives these breast implants two distinct advantages:

  • Size can be adjusted after the implants have been placed
  • The incision needed for placement can be very small

Saline implants do not look and feel as natural as silicone alternatives. This is not such an issue when implants are placed below the muscles in the chest, but may be a problem when implant placement is subglandular. Above the muscle placement may also allow saline breast implants to wrinkle, ripple, or become bisected and need to be replaced earlier than more viscous alternatives.

Silicone breast implants look and feel like natural breast tissue. This is particularly true with gummy bear (form stable) breast implants that almost perfectly mimic breast tissue in both movement and responsiveness to touch.

Silicone breast implants are:

  • Less likely to ripple, wrinkle, or bubble
  • Ideal for above the muscle placement
  • Long lasting

Silicone breast implants require a larger incision because they are filled prior to placement. This makes it impossible to adjust breast implant size during augmentation procedures with silicone implants. However, the more natural look and feel can counter this issue for many women.

Both silicone and saline breast implants offer distinct advantages and neither is perfect for every woman. During your initial consultation at our Indianapolis office, Dr. Fata will carefully assess your frame, listen closely to your desires, and help you choose the type of implant ideal for your body.

Breast Augmentation Incisions

Your breast implants can be inserted through one of four incision locations:

  • Inframammary – underneath the breast in the natural fold where breast tissue and chest meet
  • Periareolar – around the dark skin surrounding the nipple
  • Transaxillary – in the natural folds of the armpit
  • Transumbilical (TUBA) – in the belly button

In his decades of practice, Dr. Fata has found that the inframammary breast implant incision works best for most of our patients. This incision location provides the most direct access to the surgical area, is easily hidden in the natural folds of the chest, and poses no risk to nipple sensitivity – a factor that is important to consider if you plan on breastfeeding after breast augmentation. Nonetheless, all of these options exist for a reason and, should one of them be more suitable for your specific needs and desires, that is the one Dr. Fata will recommend. This will be covered along with all of your breast augmentation options during your initial consultation.

Breast Implant Placement

The placement of your breast implants will be dependent on factors including:

  • How much natural breast tissue is present?
  • What forms of exercise or activities do you engage in?
  • What type of breast implant are you having placed?
  • What are your ultimate goals?

Subglandular breast implant placement is below breast tissue but above chest muscles. This placement is slightly less traumatic and can reduce recovery time, but it is not suitable for women with very little natural breast tissue. For subglandular placement to be ideal, there must be enough tissue to fully cover the implant, otherwise imperfections are much more likely to be visible.

Subglandular placement is often better for women who lift weights as it reduces the risk of implant rupture during exercise. Dr. Fata will discuss this as relevant during your initial consultation.

Submuscular breast implant placement is below the tissue and muscles in the chest and is ideal for women with little natural breast tissue. Submuscular implant placement may also reduce certain medical risks, such as capsular contracture, and can help prevent visible aesthetic imperfections.

Submuscular breast implant placement allows for a completely natural look and feel because the implant is hidden underneath layers of tissue and muscle. It is the best placement for competitive swimmers because it reduces risks of drag and buoyancy that may be more common with implants placed above the muscles.

Neither placement should interfere with mammograms, though women with implants above the muscle may need to undergo x-rays for full cancer detection. Dr. Fata will discuss mammograms after breast augmentation during your time in our care to help ensure you understand how best to continue checking for lumps following implant placement.
