Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) permanently adjusts the size and shape of the nose, helping to bring it into complementary balance with surrounding facial features. Barring trauma, the changes made to your nose with rhinoplasty will last forever.
It should be noted that, as you age, changes in skin elasticity can make the nose look longer. It is also possible that age-related changes to surrounding structures, such as the cheeks, upper lip, and eyes, may slightly alter the appearance of your nose. The process of aging does not undo rhinoplasty, but the procedure will not make you immune from these changes either.
Does Nose Surgery Leave Scars?
There are two primary options for rhinoplasty incisions:
- Open, in which incisions are made on the outside of the nose
- Closed, in which incisions are placed inside of the nostrils
With the closed incision, any scarring will be hidden inside of the nose and remain completely unnoticeable. Open incisions are placed along the outer folds of the nose and, when needed, along the columella. These may be hidden by the natural contours of the nose and typically fade to become unnoticeable with time.
Proper healing and aftercare will help to reduce the risk of visible scars. This includes keeping incisions clean and dry and following all pre and postoperative instructions provided by our office. You will need to avoid blood thinners and nicotine as well, as both of these things can delay healing and promote visible scarring.
The Cost of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty costs around $6,400, though this can increase or decrease depending on the specifics of your procedure. At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we include all fees in our costs, including those for the hospital, anesthesiologist, and the surgery itself. Follow-up visits are also included in the cost of rhinoplasty, ensuring that there are no surprises or deviations from the price you are quoted.
