Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, is performed under anesthesia to help ensure optimal patient comfort. Board-certified Indianapolis plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fata is on the medical staff at St. Vincent Hospital and the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center, allowing him to perform major procedures – including tummy tuck – in a safe and sterile environment, further helping protect comfort and reduce risks of complication. However, because it is a more involved surgical procedure, some discomfort may be unavoidable following tummy tuck.
Depending on the type of tummy tuck you have performed, you may require compression garments and prescription pain medication to control swelling and discomfort. A prescription for all appropriate medications will be provided by our office before your procedure, enabling you to plan appropriately for administration following your abdominoplasty. Pain should be easily manageable through these medications and further reduced through minor physical activity. However, more strenuous activity could interfere with proper tummy tuck recovery and is not recommended without Dr. Fata’s approval.
There may be some discomfort during the initial stages of tummy tuck recovery, but the benefits of this procedure outweigh this small inconvenience for most patients. Aesthetic benefits including a tighter and more tone appearance and increased clothing options are certainly helpful, but so too is a greater range of motion, fewer physical limitations, and the restoration of core strength that can be accomplished through tummy tuck surgery. During your initial consultation at our Indianapolis plastic surgery office, Dr. Fata will honestly and openly answer any questions you have about abdominoplasty to help you determine if now is the right time for you to consider the procedure.
