Eyelid surgery, sometimes called an "eyelift," is an increasingly popular procedure in Indianapolis and nationwide thanks to fast healing times and little disruption to everyday life. What's more, recent studies show that for patients with a realistic set of expectations, eyelid surgery and other plastic surgery can lead to improved self-esteem in addition to cosmetic improvement.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can correct age-related changes to the eyes that may cause you to appear tired and worn down.
Until recently, studies of patient outcomes following plastic surgery focused on the physical outcomes and incidence of side-effects. But as emerging research begins to examine the psychological and emotional outcomes of plastic surgery, it has become clear that self-esteem tends to improved substantially.
One such study from Brazil focused specifically on blepharoplasty. It showed marked improvement in self-esteem at 6 months post-operation using standard psychological testing tools. Similar research has reached the same results with regards to other procedures — as long as patients maintain realistic expectations.
Interestingly, patients often report feeling better about their bodies as a whole, not just about the feature that was operated on.
