Recovery from blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can take three to four weeks, though most people can resume working within one to two. Swelling and bruising are common after eyelid surgery, but with proper aftercare, should subside within a few weeks.
Keeping your head elevated, using cold compresses, and keeping incisions clean and dry can help speed recovery. So too can taking several short walks during the day.
Is it Safe to Travel After Eyelid Surgery?
It is best to avoid long-distance travel for the first several weeks following blepharoplasty. Because initial healing from the procedure can take up to two weeks, it is best to wait at least 14 days before traveling by plane. For longer distances, it is best to wait for 30 to 60 days. This can help you avoid various complications and allow you to enjoy the most rewarding recovery possible.
Is it Safe to Drive After Blepharoplasty?
You can travel by car following eyelid surgery without the risks posed by pressurized cabins. However, if you are within your first few weeks of recovery, it is important that you take several breaks to walk around in order to keep blood circulating. This can help to reduce swelling and improve your body’s healing response.
