Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Joseph Fata in Indianapolis, Indiana can determine the best liposuction approach for you.Although liposuction, which is among the country’s most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures, is not meant to be used as part of a weight-loss strategy, new research indicates that Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons such as Dr. Joseph Fata at Renaissance Plastic Surgery Indianapolis, Indiana, may be able to safely remove more fat than was originally thought from select patients.

The law currently requires plastic surgeons in Indiana and nationwide to remove no more than 5,000 milliliters of fat, or 11 pounds, from each liposuction patient. But a 15-year study of liposuction patient outcomes by doctors at the University of Illinois determined that it is in fact safe to remove even more fat from patients with a higher Body Mass Index (BMI).

This newer, individualized approach to liposuction treatment, while not yet permissible by law, was quickly lauded by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. ASPS President Dr. Scot Glasberg called it, "an innovative and more current approach than what we have out there at the moment."

When you’re looking for an ABPS Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in Indiana who stays current on this and every other patient innovation, please contact Renaissance Plastic Surgery in Indianapolis to schedule your consultation with Dr. Fata: 317-575-9152.
