Preparing for Tummy Tuck Surgery

Before your tummy tuck procedure, Dr. Fata will schedule a pre-operative appointment to ensure you are fully ready for surgery. This visit will be a review of the surgical plan and an opportunity to have all of your questions answered. Dr. Fata will also reviewed the informed consent document and take pre-operative pictures.

If you are a smoker, it is important that you quit at least two weeks before the date of your surgery. Smoking seriously inhibits healing and heightens your risk of infection and tissue necrosis, which can lead to major scarring and even tissue death. Dr. Fata will also tell you which medications to avoid before your surgery, such as aspirin and ibuprofen, since these drugs can potentially interfere with anesthesia.

Another helpful way to prepare for surgery is to make arrangements for your recovery process. Do you have someone ready to help out around the house while you are resting? Are major errands accounted for so you won’t be worried about them? Being able to fully relax during recovery is essential. The less stressed you are, the smoother your healing process will be.
