Liposuction is used to remove stubborn deposits of fat from the body – and it can be used on just about any body part. While each person has unique concerns and goals, some of the most popular liposuction treatment areas are the:
- Hips and Buttocks
- Waist and Abdomen
- Flanks and Mid-back
- Chest (male breast reduction)
- Upper Arms
- Neck and Chin
Where the procedure will produce the most remarkable results on your body is something best determined during a one-on-one consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon.
Types of Liposuction
There are several different liposuction methods. At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we have found tumescent and ultrasonic to be the most effective. With the tumescent technique, a medical solution of saltwater, epinephrine, and lidocaine is injected into subcutaneous fat prior to its removal. Epinephrine shrinks blood vessels to reduce bleeding risks, lidocaine is a safe and effective anesthetic, and the saltwater helps add bulk to the fat, making it easier to remove.
With the ultrasonic liposuction technique, stubborn fat deposits are first emulsified with ultrasound energy. This allows the liquefied fat to be removed with relative ease, helping to reduce trauma to surrounding muscle, tissue, and bone. Because fat is emulsified prior to removal with the ultrasonic technique, complete fat removal from hard-to-treat areas is accomplishable. This makes the ultrasonic technique ideal for certain needs. The best way to find out if it is ideal for yours is through a one-on-one consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Fata.
Am I a Good Candidate?
The best candidates for liposuction are in generally good health and either nonsmokers or willing to give up nicotine for at least six weeks before and after the procedure. Because a recovery period will be necessary, good liposuction candidates are also able to take time to rest and recover, free of work, social and family obligations.
