Many people have prematurely developed facial wrinkles as a result of excess activity of the facial muscles, the so called "laugh lines", "frown lines", and "squint lines". The non-surgical treatment of wrinkles using injections that relax the muscles has been so successful that it is now the #1 non-surgical treatment for wrinkles, more popular than any other procedure worldwide.
What is Botox®?
BOTOX® Cosmetic, a purified extract of Botulinum Toxin, is a chemical which relaxes the muscle by blocking where the nerve is stimulated. It was originally used by eye physicians for uncontrolled spasm of the eye muscles, and they found that by blocking the repetitive muscle activity, the existing wrinkles softened and, in some cases, almost disappeared. The use of BOTOX® Cosmetic was gradually expanded to treat wrinkles around and between the eyes, the forehead, around the mouth, and vertical bands in the neck. And the best part is that there is no recovery period! The effect of BOTOX® Cosmetic is temporary so treatments may be needed every 3 to 4 months.
Are there any concerns of Injectables?
One of the concerns about BOTOX® Cosmetic was that a small percentage of patients may build up a resistance or immunity to it because of a protein on the molecule. A new product, Xeomin®, was developed to replicate the effect of BOTOX® Cosmetic without this protein to remove the risk of building up resistance.
Dr. Fata has been using Xeomin® to treat facial wrinkles since it came on the market and he has found that the effects are essentially identical to BOTOX® Cosmetic, and it can be provided at a lower cost as often as it is needed. Xeomin® lasts 3-4 months and so like BOTOX® Cosmetic, it is a maintence treatment.
Dr. Fata believes that Xeomin® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are the fastest, safest and most effective injections to treat facial wrinkles that have ever been developed.
Dr. Joseph Fata performs Xeomin® and BOTOX® treatments on his patients in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana.
What is the cost for Xeomin and Botox?
The cost for Xeomin® is $12 per unit. The cost of BOTOX Cosmetic is about 20% higher because of the higher price point charged by the manufacturer. The total cost for can only be determined after a consultation with Dr. Fata and the $50 consult fee will be deducted from the total.
