What Is a Facelift?
A facelift is a procedure that reverses many signs of aging in the face, including jowel formation and loose, sagging neck skin by lifting and tightening the skin and underlying soft tissues. Dr. Fata believes a good face lift should look natural and restore your youthful contours without giving the appearance that you had surgery.
Facelift Technique
Dr. Fata performs facelift surgery at the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center in Carmel, Indiana, conveniently located near his Indianapolis, Indiana office. A facelift can be performed with a general or twilight anesthesia. Depending on your age and health, your face lift may be done as an outpatient or with an overnight stay at the surgery center.
Skin incisions are placed around your ear (front and back) and along the hairline in a gently curving U-shaped pattern resembling the Greek letter omega. Excess skin is removed and the skin and soft tissues of your face and neck are tightened to restore your neckline and eliminate any jowels. The incisions typically heal as inconspicuous, hairline scars. A facelift can be done alone or in combination with other facial procedures, such as a brow lift, a blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery) or fat injections. In a mini facelift, the incision (and eventual scar) is limited to the natural crease in front of your ear. The mini facelift works best for women who have some sagging of the jowels but still have good contours in their neck. A full facelift is used when there is significant loose skin in the neck that needs tightening.

Facelift Recovery
Dressings are removed the day after surgery and replaced with a soft elastic strap, which is worn the first week to reduce swelling and promote good tightening of the neck and jawline. During the second week, this strap can be removed when you are out in public. Some bruising and swelling is expected after a face lift but in most cases it is not noticeable after the first week. The only restrictions after a facelift are to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for two weeks. In most cases, women are able to go out comfortably in public after one week with some makeup for any minor bruises. For a mini facelift, this may be possible after only a few days.
Facelift Costs
The estimated cost of a standard facelift is $7,620 if it can be done as an outpatient. This estimate includes Dr. Fata’s surgical fee, the anesthesiologist and the surgery center fees, and all follow up care by Dr. Fata. In some patients with advanced vertical bands in the neck, the facelift technique is modified to include a midline tightening of the neck muscles, which adds 45 minutes to the procedure. In these cases, the total fee is $8,333. The cost of an overnight stay at the Carmel Ambulatory Surgery Center is $500. A mini facelift takes less time and so the fees are lower, typically about $6400, and an overnight stay is usually not necessary.
