Breast reduction is a procedure that insurance companies have singled out as one that they will only pay for if they are convinced that it will be done to relieve pain. Now, breast reduction is very effective at relieving pain, but it also improves the appearance and so it has become somewhat of a gray-zone for the insurance companies. In my practice, I have not found any rhyme or reason as to how they decide whether or not to approve this procedure. Some, who should be rejected, are approved, and some who truly need the procedure are rejected. The only way to know for sure is to come in for a consultation. I will then write a letter to your insurance company and ask that you be approved for the procedure of breast reduction.
